We first set eyes upon the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept a few months ago and of course, the car generated its fair share of controversy. The current Charger had become the personification of the Dodge nameplate, and throwing all that brand equity out the window, in favor of the still misunderstood electric propulsion, is a big risk for Stellantis.

One thing’s for sure; Dodge has big cojones to replace its current bread-and-butter cars with electrified equivalents and bet the farm that the new models will be legitimate heirs to the Mopar dynasty.

Thankfully, the new EV Charger might just be cool enough for longtime fans to embrace an all-electric future. The Charger will be the first electric muscle car on the market and could be just the defibrillator jolt the EV movement needs to move it to the mainstream. Forget about fringy folks in Polestar Volvos with woke bumpers stickers. Instead, think of beautiful, state-of-the-art, blindingly fast muscle cars that never need a drop of dino juice.

Dodge showed the EV Charger a few months ago in flat black and wowed the international auto industry with its retro good looks and the resurrection of the freaky fratzog emblem. For SEMA 2022, they showed the Charger in an eye-popping metallic burgundy, with beefy rims and drag slicks. These new additional elements really accentuate the styling and attitude of the car.

Shown as a tw0-door coupe, the new EV Charger is a bit puzzling as it makes us wonder where an electric Challenger fits into the lineup. Is this the replacement for Dodge’s pony car? Or a taste of things to come? Remember, although this Charger looks production ready, it is still just a concept and there is probably much fluidity in the design language.

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT should debut in 2024 as a production model with horsepower ratings ranging from 470-650hp, four-wheel drive, virtual exhaust “notes,” and a transmission that shifts like an old-school muscle car. Based on Stellantis’s new STLA architecture, Dodge promises the EV Charger will be faster than any Hellcat before.
